Acrylic resin

Acrylic Resin Flooring — Fast-Cure MMA & PMMA Systems

Acrylic resin — MMA and PMMA systems — is the answer when the site can't be shut for days. It cures in about an hour, works in cold conditions where epoxy won't, and delivers a durable, chemical-resistant floor. Priced above epoxy but essential in the right environment.

Where this works

  • Cold stores & chilled prep rooms
  • Bakeries, dairies & food-processing
  • Pharmacy & medical (24 hr operation)
  • Airport & transport hubs — overnight installs
  • Retail refits with a single-night shutdown

How we install it

  1. 1
    Prep at speed

Diamond grinding or captive shot-blasting to CSP3–CSP4, edges chased, all in the window before the site closes for the night.

  2. 2
    MMA primer

Fast-cure MMA primer soaks in and cures in 30–40 minutes even at low temperatures. Bonding is chemical, not just mechanical.

  3. 3
    Trowel-applied build

Coloured MMA mortar is trowel-applied to 4–6 mm with aggregate broadcast for slip resistance.

  4. 4
    Seal & open

MMA sealer applied. Traffic-ready in 2–3 hours from final coat — perfect for overnight installs in a live retail or food site.

Common pitfalls we prevent

Odour during installation — MMA has a strong smell that dissipates rapidly on cure; adjacent live areas need ventilation planning
Choosing epoxy for a cold store — never cures properly; solved by specifying MMA
Poor detailing at cove upstands — MMA cures fast, so detailing has to be right first time

Frequently asked

Why not just use epoxy — it's cheaper?+

Epoxy takes 24+ hours to walk on and doesn't cure in cold stores. MMA cures in an hour and works down to -25 °C. If your site can shut for a week and it's not below 10 °C, epoxy is fine. If not, MMA earns its price.

Is the smell dangerous?+

It's strong but low-toxicity and dissipates in hours once cured. Adjacent live areas need positive-pressure ventilation planning and, in commercial settings, we coordinate with the site H&S team.

Can MMA go outside?+

Yes — UV-stable variants are used for external walkways, ramps and podium decks.
