Concrete polishing

Concrete Polishing — Ground, Honed & Diamond-Polished Floors

Polished concrete is the slab itself, refined. We mechanically grind, densify and diamond-polish existing power-floated or new slabs to the sheen level the room needs — from a matt honed finish to a mirror polish.

Where this works

  • Retail, showrooms & galleries
  • Restaurants & bars
  • Warehouse & industrial floors
  • Open-plan residential floors
  • Commercial receptions & lobbies

How we install it

  1. 1
    Grind

Metal-bond diamonds at 30–50 grit open the slab and remove any laitance. Aggregate exposure is decided at this stage: cream (no aggregate), salt-and-pepper, or full aggregate.

  2. 2
    Densify

Lithium silicate densifier is applied and worked in — it reacts with the free lime in the slab to harden the wear surface and cut dusting.

  3. 3
    Hone & polish

Resin-bond diamonds step up through 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 grit until the target sheen is reached.

  4. 4
    Guard & seal

A penetrating stain-guard is applied to protect against wine, oil and traffic marking. Optional impregnating sealer for food-contact areas.

Common pitfalls we prevent

'Polished' floors that are actually a coating — real polished concrete is the slab itself. Coatings need re-coating; polished slabs are refreshed by re-polishing
Uneven aggregate exposure across a pour — solved by test panels and consistent tool depth
Staining from spills within days — cured with a proper penetrating stain-guard

Frequently asked

Can any concrete floor be polished?+

Most slabs 100 mm+ that are power-floated. Aggregate distribution, slab age and cracking are checked first. We take a small test panel to confirm the finish is achievable.

How does polished concrete compare to microcement?+

Polished concrete is the existing slab refined. Microcement is a 2–3 mm skim that goes on top of any sound substrate. Microcement gives more colour and continuity; polished concrete is more industrial and cheaper per m² on a suitable slab.

Is it slippery?+

Polished concrete is naturally around R9–R10 wet. For wet areas we add an invisible micro-etch or aggregate-broadcast top coat.
