Site Survey
On-site substrate, condition and access survey before we quote.
For projects above ~£8k, or for any installation over an unusual substrate (existing tile, old screed, lifting flooring, period plaster), we'll come and survey the property before quoting. It's the only way to give a number we'll stand behind.
What we check on site
- 1Substrate condition
Cracking, hollow areas, lifting tiles, moisture readings on screed and walls.
- 2Substrate compatibility
Whether we can install directly over the existing surface, or whether prep / remediation is needed first.
- 3Access
How materials get to the install area — top-floor flat with no lift? Long carry? Restricted parking? All of this affects the day-rate.
- 4Drying and ventilation
Microcement and limewash both need controlled drying. We check the room ventilation and confirm whether a dehumidifier is needed.
- 5Adjacent trades
Where the install sits in the overall programme — what's done before us, what comes after.
- 6Light check
If you've picked a colour, we'll view your samples in the actual room lighting before sign-off.
We charge £180 for a domestic site survey, fully credited back against the project if you go ahead. It typically takes 45–60 minutes on site.
Free site visits for design-team meetings on tendered projects. Surveys with moisture readings and a written report are £300 and credited back on award.
Surveys included free for live tenders. We'll provide a written report covering substrate, prep, programme and any flag items.
Common questions
Can you skip the survey and quote from photos?+
For small jobs — a single bathroom in good condition — often yes. For anything larger or any project over an unusual substrate, we'll insist on a survey.
How quickly can you survey?+
We aim to be on site within 7–10 working days of an enquiry, sometimes faster. Quote follows within 5 working days of the survey.
What if the substrate isn't suitable?+
We'll tell you — and we'll quote the remediation if you want us to do it, or refer you to a competent contractor if not. We don't install over a substrate we don't trust.
