Kennel and veterinary flooring

Kennel Flooring and Veterinary Resin Floors

Kennels, catteries, grooming rooms and veterinary practices are hosed down and disinfected constantly, and the floor has to cope with water, urine, claws and cleaning chemicals. Bare concrete absorbs odour and stains; tiled floors have grout lines that hold dirt. A seamless resin floor with coved edges and falls to drains gives a surface that can be washed thoroughly. We plan the texture and details around the animals and the cleaning routine.

Where this works

  • Kennel runs and catteries
  • Veterinary treatment, kennel and recovery rooms
  • Grooming salons and wash bays
  • Animal day-care and boarding facilities

How we install it

  1. 1
    Understand the cleaning routine

We ask how often the floor is washed, which disinfectants are used, whether pressure washers are involved and where the water goes. That determines the resin system, the texture and how the drains and falls are detailed. Odour and staining usually come from water and waste soaking into porous floors, so a sealed surface matters.

  2. 2
    Prepare the base and falls

Existing coatings and contamination are removed and the concrete is mechanically prepared. Where water ponds, falls to the drains may need correcting before the finish. Cracks and joints are repaired or detailed. Contaminated concrete can need extra preparation so the new system bonds properly.

  3. 3
Install with coving and drain details

Coving the resin up walls and kennel divisions stops water and dirt sitting in corners. Drains, gully edges, posts and door thresholds are detailed so the surface is continuous. The texture is chosen so it gives grip to animals and staff without being so coarse that it is hard to clean or uncomfortable for paws.

  4. 4
    Phase around the animals

Animals usually need to stay on site, so the work is often phased run by run or room by room. Curing times decide when each area can be used and washed again. We agree the sequence with you in advance so animals can be moved safely and fumes and noise are planned for.

Veterinary flooring for clinical rooms

Veterinary practices combine animal areas with clinical rooms. Treatment and prep rooms benefit from the same seamless, coved approach used in human healthcare, with texture chosen per area. Your practice sets the hygiene requirements; we propose a system that suits them. Our healthcare flooring page explains seamless, coved floors in more detail.

Texture and comfort for animals

A smooth gloss floor can be slippery for dogs when wet, while a very aggressive grit can wear paws and trap dirt. A fine, even texture usually balances grip and cleaning. We can show samples so you can judge the feel and how easily a mop or squeegee moves across it.

What affects the cost?

The area, the condition and contamination of the base, any falls correction, the length of coving, drains and divisions to detail, and phasing around the animals all affect the price. A clear quote separates preparation, repairs and the resin system.

Common pitfalls we prevent

Coating over urine-contaminated concrete without proper preparation
Leaving square corners where water and dirt collect
Choosing a texture too coarse to clean or too smooth for wet paws

Frequently asked

What is the best flooring for kennels?+

A seamless, washable floor with coved edges and falls to drains is practical, because it has no joints or porous surfaces for water and waste to soak into. Resin systems are commonly used.

Is resin flooring safe for dogs?+

Once fully cured, a resin floor is a hard, sealed surface. The texture is chosen to give grip for wet paws while still being easy to clean.

Can the work be done with animals on site?+

Usually, by phasing run by run or room by room and keeping animals away from areas until they have cured.

How long does kennel flooring take?+

It depends on preparation, any falls correction, the area and the curing time of the system before each area is used and washed.
