Venetian and Polished Plaster in Reigate
Reigate is our closest Surrey town, just over the county line from Crawley. Here we lead with polished and Venetian plaster, the most hand-crafted work we do.
Polished plaster, applied by hand
Venetian and polished plasters are built in thin trowelled layers, roughly 0.5 to 2 mm in total, then burnished. Styles range from Marmorino, with a soft stone look, to spatulato and Veneziano with higher polish and depth.
Allow about two to four days per room. Each layer has to be applied and worked at the right moment, which is why the finish cannot be rushed or sprayed.
Plaster is best on feature walls, hallways and living spaces. For wet walls inside a shower we would steer you to tanked microcement instead.
Before any plaster goes on, the wall has to be flat and sound, because polished finishes show every ripple under raking light. We check the substrate at survey and tell you if skimming is needed first. Samples are prepared so you can see the sheen level and depth you are choosing, not just a colour.

- Can damaged plaster be repaired?
- Yes, polished plaster can be locally repaired and re-burnished, which is one of its advantages over some coatings.
- Venetian plaster or limewash?
- Plaster for polish and depth, limewash for a matt, breathable, softer wall. Our guide compares them side by side.
- Do you work across Surrey?
- Yes, Surrey is within our regular coverage from Crawley.
- Can plaster go in a kitchen?
- On walls away from direct splashes, yes. Behind a hob or sink we would usually suggest a sealed microcement splashback instead.
