The Cotswolds

Limewash, lime plaster and warm-toned microcement across the Cotswolds — heritage stone houses, barn conversions and rural new-builds.

Overview

The Cotswolds is a heritage-led market. Most of what we do here is limewash on Cotswold stone — soft, weathered cream and buttermilk tones that suit the local vernacular — and lime-plaster repair as a pre-cursor. The microcement we install in the Cotswolds is almost always in the warm-stone palette: Travertine, Limestone, Sandstone, Oat — the goal is for the new floor to look like it belongs in a building that has stood for 300 years. We travel to the Cotswolds regularly and stay on-site for the duration of the larger jobs; the journey doesn't suit a daily commute.

Property stock

Cotswold-stone cottages, Grade II and Grade II* listed manor houses, barn conversions (often Grade II listed), rural new-builds in the AONB, contemporary additions to listed properties.

Design context

Cotswolds interiors lean unhesitatingly toward warm, natural, mineral finishes. Limewash, lime plaster, microcement in honeyed neutrals, reclaimed timber and Cotswold stone are the materials language. Cool greys and high-contrast schemes look wrong here and clients almost never ask for them.

What clients in The Cotswolds most often ask for
  • Limewash across full ground-floor schemes in Cotswold-stone houses.
  • Microcement floors in warm-honey tones in contemporary barn conversions.
  • Lime-render repair to interior walls before limewash.
  • Heritage-grade work on Grade II and II* listed properties.
  • Travertine and limestone-toned microcement in rural kitchens.
Signature The Cotswolds project

A Grade II* manor near Chipping Campden: limewash across six ground-floor rooms in Chalk, Buttermilk and Pale Clay, microcement (Travertine and Limestone) across the new garden-room and utility extension. Six-week programme, listed-building consent already in place.

Travel & on-site notes

Cotswolds projects carry a small travel surcharge for jobs over the £8,000 threshold (£280 standing daily charge to cover travel and accommodation). For larger projects we set up on-site for the full duration.

Frequently asked — The Cotswolds
Will you work on Grade II* listed Cotswolds properties?+

Yes — we have multiple Grade II* projects in our portfolio and are comfortable working under listed-building consent and alongside heritage architects.

Can limewash be applied directly to bare Cotswold stone?+

Yes, on internal stone walls. Externally we'd usually recommend a lime-render skim first to even out the substrate — limewash directly on rough stone doesn't carbonate evenly.

Do you travel for smaller Cotswolds jobs?+

We can — bear in mind the travel surcharge for jobs under the £8,000 threshold. For smaller pieces it's often more economical to combine with a neighbouring project; mention this when you enquire.
