Epoxy Flooring Cost: What Decides the Price
The cost of epoxy flooring is set far more by the concrete underneath and the system specified than by the resin in the tin. Two quotes for the same floor can differ widely because one includes proper preparation and the other does not. This guide explains each factor so you can compare an epoxy resin floor price like for like.

How we install it
- 1Survey and slab testing
Every price starts with a free site visit. Moisture readings, pull-off strength and a look at old coatings, cracks and joints tell us how much preparation the slab needs, which is the biggest single swing in any resin flooring cost.
- 2Mechanical preparation
Diamond grinding or shot blasting opens the concrete so the resin bonds. Removing old paint, oil contamination or a failed coating adds time, and cracks and joints are repaired before anything is laid.
- 3The system itself
A thin roller-applied coating, a 3 to 6 mm self-levelling screed and 6 to 9 mm PU concrete are very different jobs. The right one depends on loads, chemicals, heat and cleaning, not on the lowest price per square metre.
- 4Finish, grip and sealing
Decorative flake or quartz, anti-slip aggregate and a chemical-resistant top coat each add a stage. They are priced by zone, so a whole floor does not carry a texture that only the ramp needs.
Why epoxy flooring prices vary so much
The price of epoxy flooring reflects labour and preparation more than materials. A small floor still needs the same equipment, testing and curing stages as a large one, so cost per square metre usually falls as the area grows. Access, working hours and how long the space can close also matter: weekend or overnight work, phasing around stock, or a faster-curing system such as polyaspartic all change the programme. Our epoxy flooring page explains each system in detail.
Epoxy garage floor cost
For a domestic garage the main questions are whether the slab has been painted before, whether it shows damp, and whether you want a plain colour or decorative flake. A garage floor painted from a tin usually has to be ground off completely before a proper coating can bond, which is why our guide to why garage floor paint peels is worth reading first. Garage flooring covers the domestic systems we install.
Commercial and industrial resin flooring cost
In a warehouse or production unit the cost of resin flooring is driven by slab repairs, joint detailing, line marking and the downtime the business can accept. Heavier specifications cost more to lay but last far longer under forklifts and wash-down. See industrial floor coatings and warehouse resin flooring for the heavier builds.
How to compare epoxy flooring quotes
Ask every contractor the same questions: how will the slab be prepared, what moisture reading will they accept, how thick is the system, how many coats, and is a top coat included. A cheaper quote that skips grinding or moisture testing is the most common reason a floor fails early. Our guide to choosing an epoxy flooring contractor lists what to check, and you can request a quote once you know the floor's use.

Frequently asked
How much does an epoxy floor cost?+
It depends on the slab, the preparation needed, the system thickness, the finish and the area. We give a fixed price after a free site visit, once the concrete has been tested.
How much does a garage epoxy floor cost?+
A garage price depends mainly on whether old paint has to be removed, whether the slab is damp, and whether you choose a plain colour or decorative flake. Book a site visit for a firm figure.
Can I get epoxy flooring at a DIY store price?+
A tin of floor paint from a DIY or builders' store is a thin single-part film, not a two-part resin system on prepared concrete. It is cheaper to buy but usually lifts under hot tyres or heavy traffic.
Is resin flooring cheaper than tiles?+
Not always. Compare complete quotes that include preparation, repairs and finishing. Resin's advantage is a seamless, hard-wearing floor with no grout lines to clean or replace.
Why do epoxy flooring quotes differ so much?+
Mostly because of preparation and system thickness. Ask each contractor how they will prepare the slab and how thick the finished floor will be.
