Microcement Kitchens — Seamless Floors, Splashbacks & Islands
Kitchens ask a lot of a floor: heat, dropped pans, red wine, dog claws. Microcement handles it — sealed 2K PU on a mesh-reinforced base is one of the most abuse-tolerant finishes we install, and it takes splashbacks and island returns in the same material for a fully continuous look.
Where this works
- Open-plan kitchen floors
- Splashbacks & full-height walls behind ranges
- Kitchen islands & counter returns
- Utility rooms & pantries
- Cafés, delis & hospitality kitchens
How we install it
- 1Substrate check
Kitchens usually mean underfloor heating and heavy point-loads at appliance feet. Slab is moisture-tested and hairline cracks are stitched.
- 2Continuous mesh
Base coat with glass-fibre mesh runs continuously — no break between floor, wall, splashback or island. This is what allows a truly seamless finish.
- 3Splashback + floor same day
We schedule splashbacks and floor together so trowel direction is consistent and colour batching matches across every surface.
- 4Seal for food contact
Two coats of food-safe 2K PU; a third around the range and sink. Fully cured in 7 days; light use from 48 hrs.
Common pitfalls we prevent
Frequently asked
Is microcement safe for kitchen worktops?+
Yes on vertical splashbacks and returns. On horizontal worktops we advise a hard stone or engineered surface for direct food-prep — microcement is stunning but the sealer will show wear from constant knife work.
Will it be OK under a heavy fridge?+
Yes — the load is spread across the whole floor, not just the coating. We add a felt or hard-plastic slider under the leg to protect against dragging.
Can you match a splashback colour to a specific tile or worktop?+
We mix to sample. Bring in the material or a photo and we'll mock up two or three shades to compare in-situ before committing.
