Resin flooring Kent

Resin Flooring in Kent

Kent's resin floor work splits two ways: domestic garages and home workshops on one side, and the shops, depots and vehicle workshops along the motorway and port routes on the other. We cover the county from our Sussex base, with the Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge area the closest to us.

Where this works

  • Domestic garages across Kent
  • MOT and vehicle workshops
  • Shop and showroom floors
  • Depot and warehouse aisles near the M2, M20 and M25
  • Barn, outbuilding and oast conversion utility spaces

How we install it

  1. 1
Read the slab, not the postcode

Kent towns sit on very different ground, from chalk around Dartford, the Medway towns and Canterbury to greensand at Maidstone and Ashford and sandstone around Tonbridge. What matters for a resin floor is the slab on top of it, so pull-off strength and moisture readings are taken before any figure is given.

  2. 2
    Choose the system around downtime

A domestic garage can usually lose a few days, so an epoxy coating is the economical answer. A shop or workshop that can only close overnight needs polyaspartic or acrylic MMA, and the specification reflects that.

  3. 3
    Mechanical preparation

Diamond grinding or captive shot blasting with vacuum recovery opens the surface to the profile the system needs. Cracks are resin stitched and saw-cut joints are carried through the finished floor.

  4. 4
    Coat, seal and mark out

The system goes down to its specified thickness with any non-slip aggregate broadcast into the wet coat, then a gloss or satin topcoat. Workshop and depot floors are line marked once cured.

Garage and MOT workshop floors in Kent

Kent has a high share of semi-detached and detached homes, which means a large number of domestic garages. A domestic garage floor in Kent is specified like any other: epoxy or polyaspartic over a diamond-ground, moisture-tested slab, chosen for hot tyres and oil. MOT bays and vehicle workshops are a different duty with jacks, lifts and heavier point loads, so they follow our workshop and MOT bay flooring specification. For more detail on the domestic system, see garage floor coating.

Resin flooring contractors for Kent shops and depots

Retail has long been a major employer in Kent, and shop floors need a hard-wearing finish that can be laid without closing for long. The M2, M20, M25 and M26, the Port of Dover and the Folkestone Eurotunnel terminal also mean depots and distribution buildings where heavy-duty epoxy and PU floors are used. As resin flooring contractors we phase bays so a site keeps working. For shops see resin floors for shops, and for storage buildings see warehouse resin flooring.

Satin or gloss, and floors in older Kent buildings

A satin resin floor hides scuffs and dust better than high gloss, which suits garages and workshops, while gloss reflects more light in a showroom. Our gloss vs satin guide sets out the trade-offs. Many oast houses and barns across Kent are now homes, and their utility rooms and outbuildings sometimes take resin floors; where a building is listed, check with the district council before altering it. For decorative finishes in Kent homes, see our Kent microcement page.

Common pitfalls we prevent

Pricing a Kent garage floor over the phone before the slab has been tested
Putting a thin coating on a workshop floor that needs a screed build
Assuming one specification suits every unit in a mixed retail and storage building

Frequently asked

Do you cover the whole of Kent?+

Yes. We cover Kent from our Sussex base, including the Medway towns, Maidstone, Ashford, Canterbury and the coast. The Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge area is closest to us.

Do you lay epoxy coatings on domestic garage floors in Kent?+

Yes. A domestic garage usually gets an epoxy or polyaspartic coating over a diamond-ground and moisture-tested slab, specified for hot tyres, oil and grit.

Can a Kent shop stay open while the floor is done?+

Often, by working in phases or overnight. Fast-cure polyaspartic or acrylic MMA systems are used where a floor has to reopen the next day.

Do I need planning permission for a resin floor?+

A floor finish inside a normal building does not usually need it, but listed buildings are different. Kent's district councils handle planning and listed building consent, so check with yours first if the building is listed.
